Description
Telehealth in Overdrive: A Year in Adaptation
After a flurry of telehealth adoption in
response to the pandemic, healthcare organizations now have more over a year’s
worth of experience and use cases to examine how their telehealth platforms and
services are performing. Recent HIMSS research, "Telehealth in Overdrive:
Intelligence on a Year in Adaptation," uncovered how healthcare
organizations responded to the demand for telehealth from Fall 2019 through
Fall 2020. This longitudinal research identified telehealth successes and
challenges, including insight into service offerings, digital infrastructure,
costs, and telehealth strategies moving forward. This presentation further
discusses the research findings, including a follow-up study conducted in
Spring 2021 to provide intelligence on the continued changes in virtual health.

COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition Telehealth
Impact Study
Telehealth rapidly became the preferred
method of physician-patient interaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. In near
real time, we created a 3 part study to monitor the growth of telehealth
services during the pandemic. We analyzed large claims data sets for telehealth
encounters and created direct surveys of patients, physicians and other
qualified healthcare professionals in the United States. Our on-line data tools
enable exploration of telehealth trends by specialty in all 50 states. Patient
and provider perceptions of quality, perceived barriers and expectations for
telehealth future are assessed. This study was one of several data-driven
projects undertaken by the COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition to address medical and
humanitarian needs during the pandemic. Findings will be used by providers,
payers and regulators to create the new normal for digital health in the U.S.
healthcare system.

Reimagining Children’s Health in 2021 and
Beyond
The Telehealth Improvement for Kids’
Essential Services (TIKES) Act of 2020 requires the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services to provide guidance to states about how to increase access
to telehealth under Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. But
while COVID-19 pushed the need for children's telehealth to the foreground,
implementation of programs to support TIKES won’t happen at the flip of a
switch. We must learn to implement lessons from established telehealth programs
to support children and families, especially those in rural and underserved
communities, who face immense barriers to care access. This presentation,
co-presented by Children’s Health in Dallas and Nemours Children’s Hospital,
will share best practices and lessons learned while working to expand
telehealth access for children as part of an integrated care delivery strategy.
