Concerns of nematodes are growing across the nation. While these pests have been examined for decades particularly in southern climates, longer, hotter growing seasons are revealing nematode damage in areas where previously unsuspected. Presence of these new issues have managers in wonder as to have they been there all along, why have I not seen the damage before, and how can I prevent issues from occurring in the future. This seminar will focus on recognition, identification, and mitigation of damage caused by turf pathogenic nematodes. Seminar attendees will get a glimpse into the methods diagnosticians use to identify the numerous species that can attack turf roots, symptoms to look for in both cool and warm season turf, and how management tools can be deployed to prevent further loss of turfgrass. The latest information on cultural and chemical control measures will be discussed, along with timing of application for individual sites in variable climates.
