We all know math can be hard, but such is the life of the golf course superintendent that most of the time has to operate on a tight budget. With resources becoming more and more limited, and increasing cost of pesticides and fertilizers, it is always a good idea to refresh your memory on how to properly calculate the exact amount of chemicals and water that should be used on your golf course, and how to properly and uniformly applied them to the turfgrass. During this seminar the audience will learn to: a) calculate correct amount of fertilizer to match the desired rates of nutrients applied to the turf; b) how to properly read pesticides label and consequently calculate the desired amount of chemicals to be mixed in the sprayer; c) how to calibrate sprayer equipment to achieve desired output per unit area; d) how to calculate irrigation depth into volumes and translate them into irrigation run times. Calculations and examples will be offered in both metric and imperial system to reach a broader audience. Precise management will help superintendent save big money on their applications while being environmentally friendly while avoiding misuses of chemicals that may become a the origin of non-point source pollution.
